Intuition has had a bad rep for many years, but I think it has been slowly coming out of the woodwork. Yes, intuition. This inner voice, hunch, a gut feeling, 6th sense or some say soul’s guidance that we hear sometimes and almost always ignore? Because of our fast lifestyles, because results should have been delivered yesterday, because we have no time and because we still can’t measure it.
So today, I will try to explain why it crucial that you listen to your intuition and take it into your account in your decision making and how you can do it?
So first of all, what is intuition? It’s this deep knowledge or an instinctive wisdom on things not yet consciously known. It’s the ability to understand something immediately, without reasoning. Each and single one of us has had this experience of intuition. Sure, there might not be sufficient research but I think we can all agree that it’s without a doubt a source of creativity and invention. It comes from the primitive brain and it’s a heritage from the days of a hunter-gatherer and probably even before when the brain’s ability to detect hidden dangers ensured our survival. These days, we use it so little that we don’t know how to listen to it properly. Whether you listen to it or not, your intuition is there. For some is more alive than for others and that is ok. However, if you want to make better decisions in life, you should brush up your intuition skills.
How can it help you?
History is actually filled with examples of catastrophes that have befallen people or cities when they ignored the inner voice (maybe other tangible evidence too). Even Steve Jobs once said that intuition is more powerful than intellect. Other scholars claimed that “intuition will tell the thinking mind where to go next”
Albert Einstein has been widely quoted as saying that ”the intuitive mind is a sacred gift and the rational mind is a faithful servant. We have created a society that honors the servant and has forgotten the gift. ” Intuition could be called “knowing without.
How to use your intuition?
Slow down and take time for yourself. I know it is very difficult in today’s world, but going for a walk or just spending some time alone is a great way to tune into your gut feeling. Meditation, yoga or other similar practices help.
Sleep. Get enough of it.
Pay attention to the body language, gestures and tone of the voice in your interactions with people. It will give you insightful clues.
Be receptive rather than reactive and remember that negative emotions are not helpful for intuition.
Nurture your creativity; do something that takes you to places where you forget to constantly analyse and evaluate.
But by no means discard scientific evidence if this what is needed right now. Balance the rational thinking with your instinct.
Have you noticed that the intuition is never wrong? It may take you to new and even uncomfortable places. But it is always for a greater good.
